On that site there is a guide to fix this problem, but (as I understood) You need to DOWNGRADE the Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000 SATA speed from SATA 3.0 6Gb/s to SATA 2.0 3Gb/s.and for this You need a.iso file that You can download from that site, burn on a CD and use with a PC with DOS to do the downgrade.

Both are SATA 3.0 6Gb7S so (theorically) 100% of compatibility.but.

Searching on the web for people with the same problem, I have found this site: It seems to be a compatibility issue with SATA 3.0 driver, but actually I didn't understand if it's the MacBook Pro's SATA 3.0 driver or Hitacthi Travelstar 7k1000's SATA 3.0 driver. The same test with the 7Gb folder from Vertex3 to Travelstar 7k1000 and viceversa: the operation takes less than a minute! So the problem seems to be not from Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000. The same hard drive inserted into an external box 2,5' SATA III 6Gb/s works perfectly! Sometimes it does not finish its operations and seems to be 'freezed' for more than 20-30 seconds sometimes turns off by itself and I need to reboot. After this operation I can see in 'System Information' that both the Vertex3 and Travelstar 7k1000 are using: Link Speed: 6 Gigabit Negotiated Link Speed: 6 Gigabit.so everything seems to work perfectly.!!! Just made a test copying and pasting a 7Gb mixed content folder (photo, video etc.) from Vertex3 to Travelstar 7K1000 and the dard drive seems too slow and highly unstable. Now the problem is when I try to replace the Travelstar 5K750 with the Travelstar 7k1000. For this reason I decided to put inside a faster and larger hard drive.įor this I have bought the Travelstar 7K1000. In this way everything works quite fine even if sometimes the Travelstar 5k750 seems to be a little bit slow (specially if you work with music, with tons of virtual instruments and plugins.you know Logic etc.). Native Apple HHD Hitachi Travelstar 5k750 ( SATA 2.0 3Gb/s - in the optical bay with Flancrest adapter. SSD Vertex3 120Gb SATA 3.0 6Gb/s with OSX Mountain Lion - in the drive bay - 2.
